Classics A-levels gave Malcolm a fascination for two of the earliest civilisations in Europe, the Minoans on Crete and the Mycenaeans on the Peloponnese - and a desire to visit both changed when he was invited to attend the 50th Anniversary Historic Acropolis Rally, and discovered what fantastic driving roads Greece has to offer.
Greece is a long drive from UK, so a rally that would combine great driving with visits to places of interest needed to cover the whole of Greece, to make it worth the trip. A lot of hard work went into finding a route and hotels that really worked and gave the true flavour of this wonderful country - and visited it at exactly the right time of year. The Mycenaean-Minoan Rally takes 18 days to cover Greece's northern mountains, the Meteora monasteries, Thessaloniki, Delphi, the Ionian islands of Lefkada and Kefalonia, the Peloponnese including of course Mycenae, Crete from end to end including Heraklion and many smaller Minoan sites, and a triumphant finish in central Athens, with dinner overlooking the Acropolis.
